Southwest Calgary Ring Road
May 2015 Update
Now that the land agreement has been approved by The Government of Canada, The Government of Alberta will begin the procurement process that will select the successful contractor to complete the design and build the Southwest Calgary Ring Road. The City of Calgary will continue the design process on the connections to the Southwest portion of Calgary’s Ring Road and the traffic review. You can visit the City of Calgary website for more information.
The recent Government of Alberta’s budget announcement confirmed that the Province is still on schedule to begin construction of the Southwest Calgary Ring Road in 2016 and open it before 2022. The Government of Alberta has posted some answers to Frequently Asked Questions on the Ring Road. More information on the City of Calgary’s role in this project can be found at www.calgary.ca/swrr. There is also additional information on Councillor Pincott’s website.
If you’re interested in more information about this project or the history of the area, though not written by the city or the province, a great source is The History of a Road.
With Anderson Road bordering our community as a main connector to the Ring Road there will be increased travel options for residents of Southwood. As this project moves forward we will post updates on the project and opportunities for public participation as they arise.
